R.P. Sharma Institute of Technology, Patna was established in 1980 in the name of Patna Institute of Technology by Late Prof. R. P. Sharma, the benevolent founder of Patna Educational Development trust. He nurtured the institute with personal care and foresight to bring technical education within the reach of common man. Under his imaginative, dynamic and able guidance, the institute made glorious stride and developed as full-fledged engineering degree college affiliated to Aryabhatta Knowledge University , Bihar . The institute was later renamed as R.P. Sharma Institute of Technology in order to commemorate the memory of its great founder Late Prof. R. P. Sharma. who nurtured the institute with personal care and foresight to bring technical education within the reach of common man. Under his imaginative, dynamic, and able guidance the institute made glorious stride and developed as full-fledged engineering degree college affiliated to Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna and SBTE Bihar state board .

It was in a dark alley of Patna where two brilliant brains were locked in the basement of a small house. They were so busy with their coding that they neglected to realize that the sun had set, and now it's time for dinner. "Did you get it?" asked the first brain, his hands on his side with his forehead facing the blackboard.Many batches have passed out the B.Tech course with very good academic results and most of them are placed in renowned Govt. and Private National and Multinational Organizations. Two years full time MBA course has been started since 2008-2009 in this institute. Three years Diploma courses have also been started since 2014-2015.
HISTORY OF R.P. Sharma Institute of Technology
In 1980, an institute was established with a vision to provide technical education to the people of Bihar by Late Prof. R. P. Sharma in the name of Patna Institute of Technology and soon became among the fastest growing technical institutions in Bihar.In order to commemorate the memory of its great founder Late Prof. R.P. Sharma, the institute was later renamed as RPS Institute of Technology in 1992
It was July 1980 when an educational revolution rocked Patna. An initiative by an educationist and visionary, R. P. Sharma, the Patna Institute of Technology (PIT) commenced its journey with 50 students in an abandoned warehouse at the back of a godown at Bhagalpur Road. The institute was inaugurated by the then Governor of Bihar & Orissa, L.N. Shrivastava and Late Shri Choudhary Rameshwar Prasad, IAS, the then Chief Secretary to Govt. of Bihar and Orissa with two disciplines: Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

The institute was later renamed as R. P. Sharma Institute of Technology (Formerly Affiliated to Magadh University, Bodh Gaya) in order to commemorate the memory of its great founder Late Prof. R. P. Sharma...R.P. Sharma Institute of Technology has one particular attribute that distinguishes it from the rest of engineering colleges in Bihar – it doesn't want to follow the crowd. It is clear that they don’t want to be known as just another engineering college in Bihar. They want to be known for what they are, which is a highly reputed engineering college in India and a great place for B. Tech.
ABOUT RP Sharma
RP Sharma is a great personality in the field of technical education. He was born on 1st June 1933 and had his formal education at Patna Collegiate School and at Patna Science College (now M.R. College). He even received a gold medal for standing first class in B.Sc.(Agriculture) from Bihar University in 1948. He got his M.A.(Philosophy) degree from Patna College and then went to Calcutta University for research work and obtained Ph.D degree there.
